He even did a little dance on the spot whilst waving his coloured markers in the air. “They’re our killers. They left evidence pointing to themselves in order to make us think that someone was trying to frame them.” Shandy tried to make sense of this. “But Becky and Robert hate each other since Robert cheated on her with a craftstagrammer.” “Cakestagrammer,” I corrected. “But just because they’re making a public display of hostility, that doesn’t mean it’s real.” My brain was full of possibilities.

I hadn’t interviewed Becky as a suspect, but perhaps I should have. “Robert runs a true-crime podcast too. I wouldn’t put it past them that this whole thing is a way to create new content for their followers.” The two-dimensional, illuminated rendering of Will Gibbons was having none of it. “So they became murderers to have something to talk about online? That’s ridiculous. If they were going to plot a murder just like they plot their Instagram stories, they’d surely come up with an elaborate narrative to link everything together.”

My ex-colleague was like a snappy dog when he got worked up about something. He was practically snarling by the end of this comment. His scepticism served to stop my father’s dancing and left an uneasy atmosphere in its wake. “So… we’re no closer to the truth than we were before,” I said in the hope that someone would contradict me. “That may be true, dear.” Mother wore a pouty frown.

“But we’re working together now. It won’t be long before we identify the killer.” I felt bad that we’d left Ramesh out of our meeting. This would have been the perfect moment for him to say something completely inane. He’d probably have put forward the idea that Gary’s sister was in love with the headmistress and had sown a path of destruction because of her unrequited feelings. “That’s almost a good point, actually.” Urmmm, Izzy… I thought you would have realised by now that only you can hear what’s going on inside your head.

Whoops!

This is a work of fiction. You’ll still enjoy all the quirky characters and get the main plot, but I’ve no doubt that you’ll find yourself asking, “Wait, what’s an Ewok?”

at some point before the end. Though it offers a spoiler-free, self-contained mystery to thrill and delight you, this book has a lot (too many?) call-back jokes and references to the rest of the series. But if you absolutely love books about high school reunions and think this is just your cup of tea, then go for it. Oh, and by the way, no, there are no Ewoks in this book.

1kitap1.com/en Chapter One “Our little girl is all grown up.” Mum was in a state of wide-eyed shock. “I never thought this day would come.” Dad was just as bad, and my stepfather could do nothing but stand looking dazed. Practically everyone I know was squashed into the front porch of my childhood home. There were several suspects from the past cases of my surprisingly successful detective agency, an old schoolfriend and even a distant cousin or two.

Stranger still was the fact that they were staring at me as though I was supposed to say something inspiring. My ex-boyfriend Danny had no words for me.

This is a short excerpt from the opening of “” by Unknown, quoted for review and introduction purposes.
