Thad popped the rest of the cookie in his mouth. \u201cIs there a chance she\u2019d see the good Ellie\u2019s done and forgive her for being descended from The Usurper?\u201d \u201cI just don\u2019t know. Maybe, but\u2014it\u2019s like Batrice said. Maisey has been mad before, and she\u2019s stayed mad for a very long time.\u201d I checked on Ellie, glad to see her chest rising and falling like normal. \u201cBut there are some things I do know. I rushed to her side, relieved to see her conscious so soon. \u201cYou\u2019re awake,\u201d I breathed. \u201cHow do you feel?\u201d \u201cTired,\u201d she answered, blinking her eyes open. Her voice grew stronger with each word. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll fall asleep standing up now.\u201d I offered her a hand for support as she sat up.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t even try standing until you eat first.\u201d Thad and Pal both offered her a plate, and she took Pal\u2019s. Thad raised a brow in false shock. \u201cToo good for my food tonight?\u201d Ellie lifted her chosen plate up for him to see it. \u201cThis one has more cookies on it.\u201d \u201cAh,\u201d Thad said, sighing dramatically. \u201cMy weakness in dealing with Deryk\u2019s ornery sister.<\/p>\n

She drove me to steal your food.\u201d Ellie chuckled. \u201cIt\u2019s fine.<\/p>\n
