They\u2019d ended up showering together again, lazily kissing before collapsing into bed. With Charlie\u2019s game the next day, Olive did not want to test out any more of their sexual compatibility, and Charlie was more than happy to turn in early to get her rest. It was a little awkward when Charlie thanked Olive for the experience, but Olive joked that it was her duty as a Canadian to make sure that their athletes were well-prepared and rested for the game. Elbows Up, and all that. Now in the morning light, Olive couldn\u2019t resist studying Charlie\u2019s resting face.<\/p>\n

She had a natural beauty to her, and it was almost hard to believe she was a professional athlete and not a model. Olive was sure the two overlapped occasionally, but she was almost tempted to suggest that to her as a potential career. Olive had a feeling Charlie wouldn\u2019t see it that way, but she loved her muscles. There was nothing sexier than someone who could support you, literally and physically, and Olive was more than happy to make Charlie see that in the future. \u201cMorning,\u201d Olive said, and kissed Charlie\u2019s cheek.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t want to wake her up, but Charlie had mentioned needing to be up early. Based on the light creeping in, it was almost time for the alarm Charlie had set to go off, but Olive wanted to spend some more time with her before she had to go. Charlie rubbed her eyes open. \u201cGood morning.\u201d She stood up and stretched, the robe only showing Olive bits and pieces of the gorgeous skin she knew was underneath.<\/p>\n

Olive was being a patriot by letting her leave her bed, and it was one of the most patriotic things she had done in recent history. She wondered if she could get the Prime Minister to write her a letter?<\/p>\n

OLIVE KEPT REPLAYING the moment in her head. \u201cWe really aren\u2019t right for each other,\u201d the ex-who-shall-not-be-named said to her over the phone yesterday. Yesterday. The night before their big anniversary trip to Italy. And on the phone?! Olive had wondered why her ex was acting distant lately, not really as excited for their upcoming trip as she was. It was hard enough taking the time off work for three weeks. The least her ex could\u2019ve done was tell her sooner so she could\u2019ve tried to cancel the vacation, or at least tried to look into getting a refund for the trip.<\/p>\n

But it was looking as if Olive would be stuck here in her apartment, single and alone for the next few weeks instead. The thought of going back to work filled Olive with a dread even stronger than the idea of this breakup. She sighed dramatically, scrolling through her phone. She\u2019d barely gotten any sleep, and she was supposed to be on her way to the airport now, but that was the last thing on her mind. Olive\u2019s doomscrolling ended when a call from her sister flashed across the screen.<\/p>\n

Oh God, she was going to get anxiety panics every time she saw someone calling her now. The memory of yesterday was too fresh. \u201cYes?\u201d Olive asked when she answered, not even bothering with a pleasantry. \u201cShouldn\u2019t you be on the way to the airport now?\u201d Bronwyn asked. \u201cWhat part of \u2018I don\u2019t have a girlfriend to go with anymore\u2019 don\u2019t you understand?\u201d<\/p>\n

Bronwyn sighed, and Olive could picture her shaking her head at her. \u201cJust go anyway. You said the vacation was paid for already, right? She already told you she won\u2019t be there, so you may as well take advantage of the shitty situation.\u201d \u201cThat\u2019s ridiculous, I can\u2019t just go by myself,\u201d Olive immediately refused. \u201cWhy not? You\u2019re thirty, aren\u2019t you?\u201d Olive gasped. \u201cHow rude! I\u2019m a sensible twenty-nine. Don\u2019t remind me. I don\u2019t want to be dealing with a quarter-life crisis in addition to heartbreak.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, your quarter-life crisis would\u2019ve been five years ago. And are you sure you\u2019re really mourning the breakup and not just the idea of being in a relationship?\u201d That was entirely too much logic for one sentence, and Olive didn\u2019t bother with a response. When she didn\u2019t answer, Bronwyn continued her tirade. \u201cJust go. I think you really need this, Olive. Just you and the Italian views, good food and good vibes. You need a vacation from work. Do you really want to spend the next three weeks moping?\u201d<\/p>\n
