Am I not your favourite anymore?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAunt Erin will always be my favourite,\u201d Maisie said. She released Lia to hug Alex\u2019s waist. \u201cBut you can both be equal seconds.\u201d \u201cEqual second, huh?\u201d Alex lifted a squealing Maisie over their shoulder. \u201cI don\u2019t know how I feel about that.\u201d Alex glanced at Lia. \u201cI didn\u2019t know you two knew one another.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ran into one another after training one day.\u201d Lia didn\u2019t know why she felt defensive with Alex\u2019s gaze on her. \u201cAnd now we\u2019re friends,\u201d Maisie said into Alex\u2019s shoulder. \u201cPut me down!\u201d \u201cHow about I spin you around instead?\u201d Alex whirled Maisie around, their laughs echoing off the walls. Lia watched them for a few moments before a warm presence appeared at her side and she smelled the familiar scent of Erin\u2019s perfume.<\/p>\n

\u201cGlad you managed to get out of your own head.\u201d Lia tilted her head to meet Erin\u2019s gaze. \u201cWouldn\u2019t have been able to without your help. Thank you.\u201d She reached out to squeeze Erin\u2019s hand, the moment of contact fleeting but enough to make her skin feel like it was burning. \u201cIt was for the good of the team.\u201d \u201cSure.\u201d \u201cAlthough you looked pretty cosy in the tunnel just now.\u201d Lia had wondered if Erin would bring it up.<\/p>\n

It seemed out of character, but given she\u2019d seen the state of Lia earlier in the match, she supposed Erin had a right to ask about it. \u201cShe was just trying to make herself feel better.\u201d<\/p>\n
