Her immediate thought that it wasn’t safe to take a bath during a hurricane was chased by the memory of hearing a radio announcer add an emergency water supply to the storm preparedness list.

Because she might be stuck here without power or water for days. If she made it through the storm otherwise unscathed. “What am I doing here?” she muttered and wobbled on weak knees over to the chair TJ had vacated. Sitting down felt right. She might never stand up again. “Do you mean what are you doing in this living room, as in what do you need to take care of next?” TJ asked from the doorway to the bathroom.

He had changed into scrubs and was carrying his belt and radio in one hand. “Or what are you doing in life in general?” Summer huffed out a breath. The urge to cry on his shoulder was building again. Her knees did feel like they were returning to a solid state, though.

Which was nice. “I meant Horizon specifically. Why does anyone live here when this can happen?” Summer tangled her fingers together and forced herself to stay put in the chair. Flinging her arms around TJ would make her feel better momentarily, but when they both survived, things might get weird. “I’ve invested everything in this place. What happens if I lose it? How could I make a mistake like this?” Confessing her fears aloud took some of the building pressure away.

It also immediately reminded her that those were inside thoughts. She didn’t let fears like that out of her mouth under normal circumstances. He knelt down in front of her and took her hands in his to straighten them out and warm them with easy pressure. “It has been years since we’ve seen direct landfall like this, Summer.

The relief that swamped her battled with her stubborn urge to prove she was absolutely fine. But before she knew which one was going to win the war, he added, “If we’re both working, we can get it done much faster. I solemnly promise to follow all your orders.” Summer cleared her throat, painfully aware that he’d tacked on the last part to humor her. Still, she was grateful enough to accept the effort. “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing, Officer Shepard.

Humoring me.” His low chuckle rippled through the darkness and settled low in her abdomen. “Is it working?” he asked as he moved closer to her. A sensible request combined with that voice? It was working entirely too well… 1kitap1.com/en Dear Reader, Welcome to Horizon, South Carolina, home of the Shepard family.

For generations, the Shepards have served in law enforcement, and they’re the backbone of this small Southern town on the coast. In A Hero’s Rescue, you’ll meet K9 officer TJ Shepard and the new veterinarian in town, Dr. Summer Patel. There’s a storm on the way that will force the two of them to work together instead of squaring off.

I love exploring new places, absorbing bits of story and color from both professional tour guides and the local experts who might serve me a Diet Coke with lunch or give me directions when I’m lost. South Carolina’s Lowcountry is filled with thousands of stories, hopeful and heartbreaking and funny and rich with history.

I hope some of that flavor comes through in Horizon.
