I spotted a King sized bed through the open door and almost hyperventilated. It was a first for me, in more ways than one. Not only had I never gone out with a guy from the bar, but I\u2019d also never gone to a hotel with a guy before\u2014regardless of how I\u2019d met him. Not even after prom. A series of strange events over the night had led me to Dane\u2019s ho- tel room, and I couldn\u2019t even bring myself to regret it.<\/p>\n

Not yet, any- way. Not with the way I\u2019d reacted to him the moment he\u2019d walked into the bar. And certainly not with the hot-as-heck look he was sending my way. Or the way my heart fluttered when he\u2019d been so protective of me back at my apartment. \u201cI don\u2019t know what I would have done if you hadn\u2019t been with me tonight.\u201d He stalked over to the mini bar and yanked a couple of airplane sized bottles of vodka from the fridge.<\/p>\n

He poured them over ice into two glasses and handed one to me before tossing his back in basical- ly one gulp. He gave mine a pointed look when he was done, so I took a sip from it. \u201cWhen I think about what could have happened to you if you\u2019d walked into that scene with nowhere else to go.\u201d His voice was a low growl, as though the words were torn from his throat.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes me want to drive back over there and beat the shit out of your room- mate and her lovers.\u201d I moved towards him, setting my glass down as I ran one hand up and down his spine hoping to soothe him. \u201cNothing would have actually happened to me.<\/p>\n

It would have just been awkward, walking past them to get to my room.\u201d \u201cYou can\u2019t know that for sure,\u201d he snapped. \u201cWho knows where the hell she picked up those guys and what kind of shit they\u2019re into.\u201d I hadn\u2019t recognized either of them, although I hadn\u2019t looked too closely either.<\/p>\n

Not after I realized exactly what I was witnessing. But considering the fact that my roommate had still planned on heading down to Florida with her boyfriend as I was leaving for the bar\u2014 and he wasn\u2019t either of those guys\u2014 she couldn\u2019t have known them very well. Certainly not well enough to invite them back to our place for some double penetration on our couch.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t mention any of that to Dane, though. He looked like he was about ready to go ballistic already. The last thing I needed to do was give him a reason to do what he\u2019d threatened. \u201cThank you,\u201d I whispered, taking another step closer. \u201cFuck, Addilyn. You don\u2019t have anything to thank me for.\u201d \u201cYou\u2019re wrong,\u201d I disagreed. \u201cThank you for being such a good sport about dinner.<\/p>\n
