I don\u2019t need yes-men\u2026 or yes-women.\u201d Arthur steepled his fingers. \u201cI\u2019d like you to serve in that role, if you\u2019re willing.\u201d \u201cRamos is senior.\u201d Arthur shrugged. \u201cHe\u2019s an engineer. I\u2019m an engineer. You\u2019re a tactical officer and a SWO first. That brings a different skill set rather than a similar one. And I expect you to keep me on my toes and from getting too conservative.\u201d \u201cWell, considering you were just channeling the colonel, something tells me I might not have to do as much of that as I would\u2019ve expected.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s what we need to do right now.\u201d Arthur closed his eyes for a moment. The choices he\u2019d made so far that had led him to be in this place came into focus. Why\u2019d I do this again? \u201cSo you\u2019re in?\u201d Miller nodded and pursed her lips. \u201cYes, but I\u2019m not a yes-woman. Just so we\u2019re clear.\u201d Arthur extended his hand. \u201cLike I said, not looking for one.\u201d She shook it firmly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s still a long way to go before I think you\u2019re the best choice for the Thatcher, sir, especially given your previous posting.\u201d \u201cGeneral Cohen is one of the finest commanders I\u2019ve ever served under, Captain. \u201cBecause the only thing either of us should care about is putting as many PFLOS assholes in the void as possible.\u201d \u201cHear! Hear!\u201d Arthur stood. \u201cThat is my number-one goal. Carry on, With a last nod, Miller turned and strode through the hatch. It clanged shut once again, and Arthur propped his arms up on the chair. I\u2019ve still got a lot to prove. As he considered the situation, he realized that there was also much to prove to himself.<\/p>\n
