Then the magistrates went to Giuf\u00e0\u2019s mother and said, \u201cYour son has been telling people everywhere that you\u2019ve kept a pot of money that he had found. Don\u2019t you know that one must give the court any money that\u2019s found?\u201d \u201cGentlemen, oh my gentlemen,\u201d yammered the woman, \u201cdo you really want to believe everything that my dumb Giuf\u00e0 says in broad day- light?<\/p>\n<p>How much more do I have to suffer as his poor mother? My son will be the end of me. I don\u2019t know the first thing about a pot with money.\u201d \u201cBut, Mother,\u201d Giuf\u00e0 cried, \u201cdon\u2019t you remember? I brought you the pot during the day, and that very same night the baby Jesus threw me dates and raisins down from Heaven.\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t you see how dumb he is? He doesn\u2019t know what he\u2019s saying,\u201d his mother declared. Indeed, the magistrates agreed and went away thinking, \u201cGiuf\u00e0 is truly much too dumb!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Giuf\u00e0 and the Door Another time his mother wanted to go to mass and said to Giuf\u00e0, \u201cPull the door behind you when you leave, Giuf\u00e0.\u201d When his mother was in the church for mass, Giuf\u00e0 lifted the door out of its sockets and pulled it to his mother in the church. \u201cHere\u2019s the door, Mother,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Giuf\u00e0 and the Hen There was another time that his mother wanted to go to mass in the church. \u201cGiuf\u00e0,\u201d she said, \u201cpay attention to the hen and make sure she doesn\u2019t leave her eggs.
