I snap out of my sensual haze.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d He tugs on my earlobe. \u201cYou heard me.\u201d \u201cWhere?\u201d \u201cMy home. In Florida.\u201d \u201cUm\u2026\u201d I slide off his lap. \u201cUh\u2026\u201d \u201cNext weekend.\u201d \u201cNo.\u201d I shake my head. \u201cNo.\u201d I shake my head again. \u201cI can\u2019t do that.\u201d Both his brows shoot up. \u201cWhy not?\u201d I slide farther away from him. \u201cB-because\u2026\u201d Because\u2026 well, I don\u2019t know why because. Wait, yes I do know. Because I\u2019ve never done anything like that before. I don\u2019t think I can, can I? And\u2026what if his family hates me?<\/p>\n

West grabs my legs and slides me back. \u201cTell you what, we\u2019ll go as friends. It\u2019ll be just like you and Anne going somewhere.\u201d West and I are definitely not like me and Anne. \u201cMy family\u2019s great. My dad will be there and my sister. Gramma and my cousin. You\u2019ll see. You\u2019ll fit in perfectly.\u201d \u201cWill your mom be there too?\u201d Sadness flicks, like the last time I mentioned his mom, and just as quickly it’s gone. He shakes his head. \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

That sadness is the reason why I find myself saying, \u201cOkay.\u201d He brightens. \u201cReally?\u201d \u201cReally.\u201d Grabbing the front of my hoodie, West tugs me toward him and plants a quick kiss on my lips at the exact second Anne peeks her head over the soundboard. \u201cWest and Eve sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.\u201d She makes a couple of annoying smooching noises, and I turn about a million shades of pink and red and probably purple.<\/p>\n

West grins as he gets to his feet and then helps me up. He gives Anne a playful shove. \u201cYou\u2019re infuriating. Go away.\u201d The guys begin to filter on stage, and West goes to join them.<\/p>\n

From my window seat, I stand, and with my hands folded gently in front of me, I submissively focus on the wood floor beneath my sandals. He moves in close, and with a sigh, he runs a long-fingered hand over his salt and pepper, slicked-back hair. \u201cAre you still mad at me about last week?\u201d<\/p>\n

I almost laugh. When has he ever cared if I\u2019m mad? \u201cNo,\u201d I whisper. \u201cYou understand why it had to be done, right?\u201d I nod, recalling the pelvic exam he made me have. Grayson reaches forward and tenderly takes both of my hands. \u201cLook at me.\u201d The tenderness in his touch throws me off. Slowly, I lift my eyes the length of his business suit, past our joined hands, across his smooth jaw, and up into his hazel gaze.<\/p>\n

In just a few hours, I\u2019ll never have to look into his face again. With an affectionate smile, he runs a manicured thumb over my knuckles. \u201cYou\u2019re such a good girl, Laura. It pleases me that you\u2019re willingly doing this.\u201d Willingly? He presses a kiss to my cheek. \u201cTomorrow\u2019s a big day. Get some rest. Noah Riley will be here first thing in the morning.\u201d I lie in my bed, every sense tuned as I stare at my bedside clock.<\/p>\n
