I hoped she wasn\u2019t going to be upset about the night before, but then, I wasn\u2019t afraid to stand up to her if she was. She had agreed to the plan, and that meant she was going to have to do her part in everything. It wasn\u2019t easy for me, either, but I was doing my best.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s what I was asking from her as well. She smiled when I opened the door, and a feeling of relief washed over me. \u201cCome in,\u201d I said with a smile. \u201cYou look great.\u201d \u201cThanks,\u201d she said. She grinned at me, and I motioned for her to follow me to the kitchen. \u201cI can make you a margarita if you like, but I thought the wine would go better with the spaghetti.\u201d \u201cWine and spaghetti are a good mix,\u201d she said with a grin. \u201cDid you put wine in the sauce?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have my own secret recipe. If you hang around long enough, you might just learn what it is,\u201d I replied with a smirk. She gave me a playful punch on the arm before taking the wine from me. \u201cI\u2019ve got a pounding headache from last night,\u201d she said. \u201cWere you out late?\u201d I asked, trying not to sound too invasive. \u201cWe ended up at Cassie\u2019s place because of some creeps at the bar,\u201d she said with a shrug.<\/p>\n

\u201cI ended up just crashing there because I was too drunk to try to navigate my way back home myself.\u201d I shook my head, immediately becoming protective. \u201cWhat kind of creeps? What did they do?\u201d I asked, not realizing my hands had fisted at my sides. Liz looked at me like I\u2019d lost my mind for a second. \u201cNothing big, just some assholes who thought they were charming.<\/p>\n

They weren\u2019t, and we let them know that.\u201d \u201cOh, so nothing got too out of hand then,\u201d I said, relaxing a tad. \u201cYeah, Cassie handled it like a boss,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m sure they wished they hadn\u2019t tried to hit on us by the time we were done with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

I laughed, trying to keep the mood light. I was going to let her tell me as much as she wanted, then let her keep the rest to herself if she wanted.<\/p>\n
