I was aware of Ultraviolette\u2019s credibility, but I had also heard that factory visits generally tend to be boring. Not in this case, though. When I found out that we may get to assemble the X-47, my interest heightened. Before we were escorted to the assembly area, having first been told about the dos and don\u2019ts, we were apprised of the substantial effort that had gone into the engineering of the motorcycles, which draw aspects from aerospace engineering.<\/p>\n

These include some in-house designed, some patented, and some industry-first technologies, including the radar system, battery, motor, motor controller unit, vehicle control unit, onboard charger, and more. The process of building the motorcycle starts with the sorting of the cells. To eliminate any margin of error, each and every cell is tested before it goes into the battery packs.<\/p>\n

The packs are not only among the largest on any two-wheeler in India, but are also \u201c10C\u201d rated, that is, the rate of discharge in relation to the capacity of the battery. A higher \u201cC\u201d rating means it pushes out power at a faster rate and stays cooler than those rated lower.<\/p>\n

Typically, in electric two-wheelers that are equipped with lower C-rated batteries, heat is dissipated from the lateral surface of the battery pack through radial cooling. Ultraviolette employs axial cooling, a more effective technique wherein heat from the battery is dissipated from the top and bottom. This is further supplemented by a central vehicle intelligence system that coordinates with all vehicle systems with aerospace-level redundancy.<\/p>\n

There are rumours that Triumph is already testing a bored-down 350-cc version of its 400-cc line-up. The GST Council is levying 40 per cent GST on motorcycles above 350 cc, thereby equating such motorcycles with luxury cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. This is utterly ridiculous. As a result, the same thing that happened in the car industry is going to happen in the motorcycle industry\u2014manufacturers making sub-four- metre cars to get the benefit of a lower rate of GST.<\/p>\n

These cars are made specifically for the Indian market. Similarly, motorcycle manufacturers will continue making 400-cc-plus bikes for export while selling the 350-cc versions in India. It is heartening to see that the police are cracking down on loud aftermarket exhaust systems. They should catch those motorcycle riders who create a nuisance at night with those crack-and-bang sounds. Then we have those loudspeakers blaring out music during festivals that are far louder than any motorcycle exhaust.<\/p>\n

However, the police do not interfere because, maybe, such events are sponsored by local politicians. The law should be the same for everyone, whether it is a car with a loud exhaust system, a motorcycle, or loudspeakers. All should be equal before the law. To curb pollution, the government of Maharashtra wants to ban bikes that are more than 15 years old in Pune and Mumbai.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
