Jin\u2019s immaturity that distracted from his razor sharp intellect. Even Kira\u2019s bravado concealed the fear of loss she carried with her everywhere. \u201cHow long will this take?\u201d Gus asked Kyle, ignoring the enigma that Caius was shaping up to be.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know. Hours. Days. Months. Do you have any idea just how many cameras there are on Titan?\u201d The question was a rhetorical one as Kyle answered it a second later. \u201cThousands. There are thousands of cameras on Titan. And did the gardener give me a timeline so as to limit the parameters of my search? No, he did not. I don\u2019t even know what he means by \u2018people who don\u2019t belong.\u2019 How is he defining \u2018don\u2019t belong\u2019? Technically, none of us belong here.<\/p>\n

Do you know how dangerous space travel is? And to live in space? Permanently? It\u2019s a miracle any of us exist at all.\u201d Caius stared at Kyle with a combination of fascination and repulsion. \u201cDoes he go on diatribes like this often?\u201d \u201cQuite often.\u201d It was one of Kyle\u2019s most annoying traits.<\/p>\n

Right up there with his propensity for games of chance and his lack of willpower or anything hinting at self-discipline. \u201cOh.\u201d Kyle sounded surprised. \u201cI found something.\u201d Of course, he did. That was why Gus counted him as one of hers despite his many detractors. Gus moved to hover over his shoulder. \u201cWhat is it?\u201d Kyle ripped off his VR headset with a crow of satisfaction as he flicked a video file onto the monitors. He nodded at the freeze frame of a Tuann standing on the periphery of a crowded bar that Gus recognized.<\/p>\n

It was Cat Three. Located on level ten in the heart of the entertainment sector, it wasn\u2019t the nicest bar. Nor was it the worst. The Tuann may have gone unremarked if not for the undue attention he was paying to a table of four on the opposite side of the room.<\/p>\n

Botanical Mischief is a spin off from the Firebird Chronicles. While it is written to stand alone, it may be easier to read the Firebird Chronicles first as this book takes place during the events of Echoes of Insurrection. For those who choose not to do that, I’ve included a world introduction, a cast of characters, and a breakdown of the major Houses to make your reading journey a little easier and less confusing. They built their great Houses. Then an empire meant to protect them should their old masters ever come calling. They developed and evolved into a warrior race that none could subjugate ever again.<\/p>\n

Except the Osiri were reluctant to give up on their former pets. They saw what the Tuann had become and coveted them all the more. Knowing the Tuann had grown too strong to be easily brought back under control, the Osiri built their own armies, comprised out of those races they had enslaved. The Tsavitee. A scourge that swept across the stars until it encountered humans and their hero, the Phoenix. But this is not that story. World History This is the story of a group of children stolen from their Tuann parents in an event known as the Sorrowing.<\/p>\n

For years, their fate remained unknown. They were thought lost to their former people. Until one dark night, those children followed in the footsteps of their long ago ancestors and escaped. Forty five children fled into the forest that night. Two were separated from the pack but forty three made it out together. The Tuann\u2019s emperor and his Faces, men and women who represent his will, rule over them all. The Five Major Houses Luatha \u2013 Mostly comprised of artisans. They are very in tune with nature and their surroundings. Roake \u2013 They are smaller in number than the other great houses but mighty. Their warriors are considered some of the best in the empire. Danai \u2013 Not much is known Asanth \u2013 they believe might makes right and follow the strongest.<\/p>\n
