There was a time this past year that our PPP declined for two straight months, something that had never happened before at DLP. This set off alarm bells to me and DLP\u2019s entire leadership team, leading us to drive corrective actions throughout the organization. We focused on encouraging each team member to develop an owner\u2019s mentality, making this our quarterly theme and even holding a big company-wide contest around it.<\/p>\n<p>We focused on resolving C players. We focused on account- ability. We made sure everyone in the organization was aware of the PPP setbacks and focused on driving individual and, in turn, company productivity. In just three months, we were able to realize a PPP increase of more than 15 percent. The first time that we told our team members that we were targeting a 28 percent increase in productivity for the year, they thought we were crazy.<\/p>\n<p>Management was bombarded with questions from team members: How can we become 28 percent more productive? I\u2019m already working fifty or sixty hours a week. How am I possibly going to become almost 30 percent more productive? We understood this reaction, but we also believed that together we could make this happen. + The key to team member buy-in was making sure each team member felt that he or she was also benefiting and directly connected to this initiative and focus.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, operating a business with a strong foundation, with the ability to with- stand market changes and other external risks, and that is growing and becoming more profitable will benefit everyone. As long as your business is thriving, your team members will have jobs and opportunities for advancement.
