He braced himself for anger, for frustration, for her to storm out and never look back. Instead, she smiled. \u201cOkay.\u201d He blinked. \u201cOkay?\u201d \u201cOkay.\u201d She took a step back, and the loss of her warmth was almost physically painful. \u201cYou need time. I can give you time. But Ben?\u201d<\/p>\n

She put her hand on the door, looking back over her shoulder with an expression that made his heart stutter. \u201cDon\u2019t take too long. Spring is coming.\u201d Her smile turned wicked. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve heard rabbit Others get very intense during mating season.\u201d The door closed behind her with a soft click, leaving him alone in his office, his heart pounding and his body aching, but for the first time in six years, he let himself hope.<\/p>\n

1kitap1.com\/en ara squinted at the banner she was painting, the cheerful \u201cWelcome to the Fairhaven Falls Spring Festival!\u201d lettering slightly askew despite her best efforts. Somehow she\u2019d ended up volunteering to help with the Spring Festival planning, and she\u2019d rapidly discovered that it was not her strong suit. The community center was abuzz with excitement, everyone debating vendors and arguing good-naturedly about the placement of various decorations. The Spring Festival was apparently a very big deal in Fairhaven Falls.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re doing wonderful work, dear.\u201d Flora materialized at her elbow, looking like an overgrown chick in her fluffy yellow tracksuit. Her eyes twinkled mischievously. \u201cThough I notice a certain grumpy rabbit isn\u2019t here to appreciate it.\u201d Her cheeks warmed. \u201cI don\u2019t know what you\u2019re talking about.\u201d \u201cOf course you don\u2019t.\u201d Flora patted her arm with a gnarled green hand. \u201cAnd I didn\u2019t see you leave his office looking thoroughly kissed last Friday either. My eyes must be going in my old age.\u201d \u201cFlora\u2014\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t mind me, sweetheart.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m just an old woman who\u2019s seen enough mating dances to recognize the steps.\u201d She winked and tottered off towards the refreshment committee group, leaving Sara flustered and certain that everyone in the room was now staring at her. She usually loved decorating for the holidays, but this year she\u2019d spent the three weeks between semesters arranging for the move from Charlotte to Fairhaven Falls. The best she\u2019d been able to manage was a small artificial tree decorated with the ornaments her kindergarten students had given her over the years.<\/p>\n

It had been the last thing she packed before the moving truck arrived to collect her boxes and her meager assortment of furniture. The mover had been a very large and very attractive troll, a vivid reminder that she was moving to a town that was populated mainly by Others, the creatures of myth and legend who lived alongside humans. Although he wasn\u2019t the first one she\u2019d met, most Others tended to prefer small towns like Fairhaven Falls.<\/p>\n

The knowledge still made her a little nervous, but if they were all as friendly as Eric, the very flirtatious mover, she had nothing to worry about. Closing the box again, she added a new label to the top and carried it into what was euphemistically called a second bedroom but was barely larger than a walk-in closet, and added it to the neat stack along one wall to be dealt with \u201csome day.\u201d \u201cHopefully before I have to move again,\u201d she muttered.<\/p>\n

Four moves in the six years since she\u2019d graduated was enough to challenge anyone\u2019s optimism, but that was part of the reason she\u2019d chosen Fairhaven Falls, hoping this time things would be different. Returning to the living room, she gave a satisfied nod.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
