This distraction would pull me further away from the harrowing adventures of Johnson, the noble, yet ill-advised knight, and Guinevere, the young noble maiden he was sworn to protect.<\/p>\n

It\u2019d been coming up to a good part too: the two heroes were travelling through the moors to slay a dastardly dragon and everything. Dragons really were violent creatures. But that would have to wait. \u201cI\u2019m not doing anything,\u201d I told him, trying to ignore the knowing gleam in his eyes. \u201cCan I help you?\u201d I\u2019d hoped he would say yes, just to give me a purpose. I could always read more later. \u201cI\u2019m waiting for Brayden.\u201d Anthony glanced at the doors that lead from the coffee shop into the library.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you looked lonely.\u201d \u201cI-I\u2019m not lonely.\u201d I pulled the novel toward me. My face grew warm as the hair prickled at the back of my neck. For some reason being near Anthony made me feel guilty, which led to me being rude. But he hadn\u2019t done anything wrong and seemed interesting and polite, so I wasn\u2019t sure why I was so shy.<\/p>\n

Julian had commented about wanting the two of us to get closer. And I wanted to. None of this made any sense at all. But my abruptness didn\u2019t deter the necromancer. \u201cI had a break between classes,\u201d he said, leaning back in his seat. His casual but confident demeanor and the way he crossed his legs was so much like his brother that my apprehension faded.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an occult- based science that was popular during the Heian period in Japanese history. The most popular practitioner was Abe no Seimei. Their magic is drawn from the underworld. They are also fortunetellers, tarot masters, and can bind a shikigami to them to act as their worldly familiar. Shikigami \u2014 A shikigami is a spirit guide, of sorts, that is present on Earth through a contract with an onmyoji. They have a human form but prefer to take on their animal shape in this realm.<\/p>\n

They act as an intermediary between the underworld and this realm on behalf of their onmyoji. Necromancer \u2014 In this universe, the necromancer retains most of their original definition with one change: they cannot summon spirits. Necromancers deal with the physical side of death and the memories that are tied to living and dead things. Because a person\u2019s essence is tied to the spirit as well as the physical body, necromancers can dream-hop and manipulate emotions.<\/p>\n

Fae \u2014 Much of the original fae folklore is kept, including the appearance of the Seelie and Unseelie court. In this world, fae act as the intermediary between this world and the underworld. They live between the two, and their specialty is mediumship\u2014communication with spirits. Witch \u2014 A witch in The Grimm Cases and Alpha are much like a hearth\/house\/green witch of today.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
