The waterfall roared beside us. The spray kept hitting my face, which was not helping my composure. \u201cI said that in an interview?\u201d he asked. \u201cSeventeen magazine, two years ago.\u201d I turned and poked him in the chest, giving him a knowing look.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou also said if you could choose any adventure, you\u2019d hike to a waterfall and jump in. Direct quote.\u201d \u201cYou remember the direct quote?\u201d \u201cI remember everything. It\u2019s a blessing and a curse. Ask me literally anything. Actually, don\u2019t, we\u2019re getting off track.\u201d I gestured at the drop. \u201cAre we jumping?\u201d He looked at the water. I looked at the water. Then I looked at him, and he looked at me, and I don\u2019t know what he was thinking about but I was thinking that six hours ago I had broken into his hotel room to steal a T-shirt and now we were standing on a cliff in the Hawaiian mist together and life was both very strange and very good and I wanted to remember exactly what this felt like, the spray on my face and the roar of the falls and him standing next to me looking at the same water I was looking at like we were the same kind of person, which maybe we were, a little, in ways I hadn\u2019t expected.<\/p>\n
