The Canada lynx is a visually stunning cat, with its distinctive ear tufts and long hair hanging down from its lower cheeks. Its hind limbs are longer than its front limbs, so its back slopes downward as it hunts in northern forests of North America, searching for prey.<\/p>\n

Just from looking at it you can tell it\u2019s a predator, with its sharp eyes, strong limbs, lean body, powerful muscles, and retractable claws. Predation has shaped its form and function over many generations. It has also shaped its prey\u2014the snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus). The interaction of the Canada lynx and snowshoe hare echoes and highlights the themes you will encounter throughout your AP\u00ae Biology class.<\/p>\n

Evolution has influenced the form and function of all organisms on Earth, and that\u2019s particularly clear when looking at predators and prey. The two have evolved in lockstep, driving each other\u2019s adaptations. Underpinning evolution is the idea of Information Storage and Transmission, which allows organisms to function and pass on traits from generation to generation. None of this would be possible without Energetics\u2014a source of energy fueling the entire process and the ability of organisms to harness this energy to carry out their functions.<\/p>\n
