When Penny finally called and said, \u201cI have three probable locations for the primary source of the Scorpion\u2019s command signal,\u201d Maya nearly shouted for joy. She ran to Trent, who was sleeping on the cot, but before she could shake him awake, he said, \u201cI heard.<\/p>\n

No beauty sleep for me.\u201d \u201cNo amount of sleep could make you beautiful,\u201d Penny quipped. \u201cHa ha,\u201d Trent said, pulling his boots on. \u201cYou\u2019ve been married to Todd for too long.\u201d Maya liked the banter they shared in the unit, but she was impatient to get to the meat and potatoes of the call.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are the locations, Penny?\u201d \u201cI have three of them,\u201d Penny replied. \u201cOne in the Sonora Desert outside of Phoenix, Arizona; one in the mountain forests of northern Montana in the same rough neighborhood as Glacier National Park; and one underneath a closed auto parts store in Detroit, Michigan.\u201d Trent blinked. \u201cDetroit?<\/p>\n

Seriously?\u201d \u201cIs that less surprising than an abandoned mini-zoo outside of Las Vegas?\u201d \u201cI guess not,\u201d Trent said. \u201cOkay, so three targets. One each for me, Maya, and Bolton?\u201d Todd replied to that. \u201cIs Bolton there?\u201d Trent looked at Maya. \u201cNo, it\u2019s just us.\u201d \u201cGood, then I can say this without any hurt feelings. Bolton is a bludgeon. I need three scalpels.<\/p>\n

The third man of your group is going to be Zero.\u201d In the background of the call, Maya heard a familiar voice curse. \u201cGod damn it.\u201d \u201cDad?\u201d \u201cYeah, it\u2019s me,\u201d Zero said. \u201cShit. I knew this shit was gonna happen.\u201d Maya sighed. \u201cI understand, Dad. I\u2019ve been having some trouble over the Maya and Sara thing too. Believe me, if I could have avoided bringing you in, I would have.<\/p>\n

I actually tried to protest calling you in to consult, but the mission evolved.\u201d \u201cYeah, I get it,\u201d Zero replied. \u201cIt just sucks. You know they\u2019re alone right now.\u201d \u201cThey\u2019re not alone,\u201d Todd said. \u201cI have guards watching Sara\u2019s apartment, and I have guards watching your house. Anything happens, and we\u2019re going to know about it right away.\u201d \u201cYeah, and we won\u2019t be there to do anything about it,\u201d Zero protested. \u201cYou know who will be here?\u201d<\/p>\n

Todd fired back. \u201cThe literal wrath of God.<\/p>\n
