Marrow in my bones. So entangled that I can\u2019t remove him without cutting myself up.<\/p>\n<p>I allow some honesty out. Maybe that\u2019s the only way to excise him. \u201cI wanted more, okay? Sawyer steps left, blocking me. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, Wren,\u201d he says quietly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t need an apology from you. I don\u2019t need anything from you. I wanted things from you. I\u2019ve moved on. You can\u2019t decide you want me now because I did.\u201d \u201cYou think that\u2019s why I\u2019m out here?\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t know why you\u2019re out here, Sawyer.\u201d He exhales. \u201cI\u2019m fucked up, Wren. I fuck up. You have no clue what you\u2019re getting into with me, and I have no idea why you\u2019d even want to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWanted to.\u201d I emphasize the past tense. One corner of his mouth curves up. \u201cYou kissed me back.\u201d \u201cIt was a reflex.\u201d \u201cWhat about stroking my hair?\u201d \u201cI wasn\u2019t stroking.\u201d He hums, not really agreeing or disagreeing, and then his expression turns serious again. Tense too. \u201cI really came out here to check \u2026<\/p>\n<p>you\u2019re okay?\u201d \u201cOkay?\u201d I echo. \u201cLike, sober?\u201d \u201cYeah, that.
