In the last hotel I\u2019d stayed in with Alora, the manager had filled our suites with white roses, sprayed with some kind of special preservative which meant they\u2019d last forever. I sniffed at Ade\u2019s flowers in an obligatory way. They smelled of nothing. \u2018Thanks,\u2019 I said. \u2018They\u2019re nice.\u2019 I placed them down on the coffee table next to the empty cans. Warren fist-bumped me and asked how I was doing. \u2018Tired,\u2019 I said. \u2018And hungry. The food in first class was like something a cat threw up.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m going to make something to eat then take a shower. You guys carry on, but maybe turn it down a bit, yeah?\u2019 A strange, slightly nervy look passed across Ade\u2019s face. \u2018Oh, erm\u2026\u2019 he said. \u2018Eva, maybe you shouldn\u2019t go\u2026\u2019 But I was already making my way towards the kitchen. That\u2019s when I saw them. I stood in the doorway surveying the room in dismay\u2014the unpacked boxes and bags, on the floor, on the table, all over the counter, exactly where they\u2019d been when I left.<\/p>\n

Ade had followed behind me. I spun around to face him. \u2018What the fuck?\u2019 He edged past me, hastily picked up a couple of the boxes and balanced them on one knee. \u2018I\u2019m sorry, I wasn\u2019t expecting you home for another hour.\u2019 \u2018Another hour? You\u2019ve had four weeks!\u2019 \u2018I\u2019ve been busy.\u2019 \u2018Doing what? Playing superstar DJ for your only groupie?\u2019 Ade laughed, which I found completely infuriating.<\/p>\n

\u2018Are we having our first domestic?\u2019 He tried to put his arms around me, but I shrugged them off. \u2018It\u2019s not funny. You don\u2019t know what it\u2019s like being on tour, on the move all the time, in different hotels practically every night\u2014it\u2019s really disorientating. Sometimes you\u2019d give anything for one night in your own bed.<\/p>\n

So when I finally come home I want to walk into a house which feels like my own, a tidy house, not a two-million-pound storage unit.\u2019<\/p>\n
