She\u2019d been angry that someone could do that to her, he seemed like a nice young kid, she said. He\u2019d warned her not to talk, said he\u2019d come back and cut out her tongue if she did, but she didn\u2019t believe him. God knows what warning he gave the second time, but it worked. She hasn\u2019t said a single word.<\/p>\n

Write things down, maybe?\u201d Flynn shook his head. \u201cIt\u2019s like she\u2019s shut down, given up on life. I\u2019ve learnt to read her expressions, so I know if she\u2019s particularly happy or sad. We\u2019ve figured a few things out over the years. The staff say she eats a lot better when I\u2019m there, and she enjoys a glass of wine.<\/p>\n

I buy the bottles with the alcohol removed; the doctor thinks that\u2019s best. You want another beer?\u201d \u201cNo, I\u2019ve got to get going,\u201d said Cooper, suddenly feeling very guilty for the family waiting for him at home. \u201cEarly start in the morning,\u201d he added. \u201cSure. I might stay, have one more.\u201d \u201cYou need a lift home?\u201d \u201cNah.\u201d Flynn pointed across the street again. \u201cI left the car at home today.\u201d Cooper nodded, picked up his keys, and clapped his friend on the shoulder.<\/p>\n

Detective Senior Constable McLeish reluctantly followed Bonnie into the theatre, the two uniformed officers they\u2019d requested as backup hot on their heels. Not that they\u2019d be needed. The uniforms were part of the show. Bonnie made sure to open the door with enough force that it crashed into the wall behind, commanding the immediate attention of everyone in the room. She had a good idea where her target would be sitting.<\/p>\n

It was mid-way through the semester and people like Calvert were creatures of habit. \u201cOn your feet,\u201d she barked, locking eyes on the creep as she took the middle stairs two at a time to reach his row.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
