Founder Michelle Southern OBE has wit- nessed the heartbreaking conse- quences and says a change is desperately needed. She adds: “When ac- commodation providers refuse pets, they are not off ering help. T ey are issuing an impossible ultimatum. “No-one should be expected to surrender a beloved companion to access safety, warmth or support.”

T e charity, based in the north east of England, is now calling for an urgent change to Government housing policy. T ey want social landlords banned from unrea- sonably refusing pets where a risk assess- ment shows it is safe to have them. Michelle believes this one change would make a huge diff erence – and would be simple and practical to implement. She says: “It already exists in the private rented sector.

It requires no new legislation and no new funding – just clarity and compassion.” ● For more information about No One Left Outside, head to streetpaws.org. uk/campaign. ● To sign the petition, visit petition. parliament.uk/petitions/753095.
