T e new punk-style \ufb01 lm, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, is set in the era of gangsters and prohibition in 1930s Chicago. It sees Hamnet star Jessie Buckley take on the role of the monster\u2019s partner, a murdered woman called Ida. Christian Bale plays the monster, called Frank, who teams up with a Dr Euphronious, played by Annette Benning, to reanimate her. Lovers Frank and Ida end up going on the run, Bonnie and Clyde style. Jessie says of her \u201cbride\u201d: \u201cIn other iterations, she\u2019s born to be a wife, but without any autonomy, with no voice, with not even an option to say \u2018No\u2019 \u2013 she just screams\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
