The toddlers didn\u2019t care much, but Christi\u2019s eyes were drawn to her half-naked state. She sniggered at the sight. \u201cDid the little girl not make it to potty on time?\u201d she taunted. Mia opened her mouth to retort, to defend herself, because no, of course she didn\u2019t pee herself. But then\u2014What could she actually say?<\/p>\n

No, of course not, I just totally cummed all over our boss? No, I did not pee myself, I just squirted for the first time in my life in the changing room on our boss\u2019 lap? Shit. Shit, shit, shit. \u201cShe did not,\u201d Jonathan cooed and looked at her with a little pout on his face, even though his eyes looked amused. \u201cI was just going to see if Miss Lorena had an extra potty for the little one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mia\u2019s jaw dropped open. What?! \u201cBut\u2014\u201d \u201cShh. Daddy will be right back. You sit here with Miss Christi and sing some songs, okay?\u201d Jonathan left and Mia turned back to Christi who was busy telling a toddler to go potty. \u201cGo now, Jess. You wouldn\u2019t want to wet your panties like Mia, would you?\u201d The toddler looked at Mia\u2019s wet panties, giggled, and ran towards the toilet where little potties were placed for each kid. \u201cMia, will you stand up, please?\u201d<\/p>\n

Christi said. Mia frowned. \u201cNo.\u201d \u201cCome on.\u201d The woman stood up and placed her hands under Mia\u2019s armpits. \u201cUpsies we go.\u201d Mia glared at her and crossed her arms over her chest with a pout. \u201cStop it. Just because\u2026 Just because I peed myself once doesn\u2019t mean you can treat me like a kid. I\u2019m your colleague.\u201d \u201cEveryone,\u201d Christi said, completely ignoring her like she often did with moody toddlers, \u201clet\u2019s help Mia sing, okay?\u201d<\/p>\n

And then the humiliation started. \u201cThe wheels on the bus go round and round\u2026\u201d The toddlers all picked up the song. Except for Mia.<\/p>\n

Mia was late for her job at the daycare. It wasn\u2019t the first time. But when she lived a half-hour drive away and worked a morning shift, the traffic was expected to be terrible. Too many parents wanted to bring their children to school themselves instead of putting them safely on the bus.<\/p>\n

Mia hated it. Not only did that mean more traffic, but also fewer parking spots. Both of which made her more late than she already was. She was dreading walking in there. It was her third time this week being late. It had never happened that much before, but her boss had said there would be consequences.<\/p>\n

His warning, however, seemed not to have had much of an effect on Mia. Twenty minutes was a lot, and she knew it. When she finally parked her car, she rushed into the building and gave Lorena, the secretary\u2014who had hated her from the very beginning\u2014a rushed wave. The old woman did not wave back, staring Mia down instead. Mia assumed it was because their boss, Jonathan, paid Lorena no attention when Mia was around, choosing instead to stay silent and look at her. It made Mia feel all fuzzy inside.<\/p>\n

It took Mia two more minutes to take off her shoes and coat before she rushed to her usual room full of toddlers. \u201cHey Christi, sorry I\u2019m late, has Jonathan\u2014\u201d Mia came to a sudden halt. Christi was not there. Instead, her boss, Jonathan, stood there, arms folded over his chest as he gravely stared at her.<\/p>\n

His eyes were golden in the early morning light, lips pressed into a thin line. But he didn\u2019t look angry. Serious, yes. Maybe even annoyed. But there was a glint in his eye. One that she couldn\u2019t quite place a name on. He looked almost unfairly attractive, as always. His hair was tousled, his muscles bulked in his white button-up shirt, and his clenched hands were lined with visible veins. Mia\u2019s stomach gave a lurch at the sight.<\/p>\n

She rolled her lower lip into her mouth and bit it, staring up at him. \u201cI\u2019m sorry.\u201d The left corner of Jonathan\u2019s lip twitched. \u201cSorry\u2019s not going to cut it this time, Mia.\u201d The young woman glanced around the daycare. Only two children were there so far, out of eight. It mustn\u2019t have been that difficult, really. Christi gave her an annoyed look from where she was sitting with the two little boys, though. Maybe it was. \u201cWhat can I do to make it up to you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Mia asked. Her eyes returned to Jonathan\u2019s, and she found him arching an eyebrow in response. \u201cYou\u2019re not going to like it.\u201d She gulped. She needed this job. \u201cOkay\u2026\u201d He dropped his arms and placed his hand forward, palm up. Mia stared at it in confusion.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
