\u201cOh,\u201d Aiden said. We sat in silence for a short while. I was so tense I would have noticed a moth beating its wings on the other side of the room. When he spoke again, his voice sounded like he was trying way too hard to be casual. \u201cOnly, I thought you were staring at me.\u201d \u201cWhy would I do that?\u201d I asked defiantly. I didn\u2019t like where this was heading. The straight jock refusing to leave the gay nerd alone.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d been blessed not to get into any trouble in high school, but I\u2019d seen enough movies and heard enough stories. \u201cBecause you\u2019re attracted to me,\u201d Aiden said, so matter-of-factly that it made my jaw drop. I swallowed. \u201cJust because I\u2019m gay and I find you attractive, doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re in danger of me jumping on you,\u201d I said. \u201cLet\u2019s just get that out of the way now. I\u2019m not going to try and force you into something just because we\u2019re trapped in the same place.\u201d Aiden cleared his throat.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t thinking that.\u201d \u201cYou weren\u2019t?\u201d I asked, almost snapping at him. If he wasn\u2019t trying to warn me off, then why was he being so obtuse about bringing this up and making the atmosphere feel so awkward? He turned a page in his book as if none of this was of any consequence, but I had a feeling he was reading even less than I was.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw you this morning,\u201d he said. \u201cAfter I gave you a massage. You grabbed the pillow to hide yourself.\u201d \u201cSo what?\u201d I asked. Now my teeth were definitely gritted. If this was leading to a beatdown or something\u2026 \u201cYou were hard,\u201d Aiden said. He turned to look at me, meeting my eyes and letting the book fall against his leg.<\/p>\n

\u201cWeren\u2019t you?\u201d I was once again left speechless by how openly he spoke, how he didn\u2019t seem to have a single filter in place before he opened his mouth. I swallowed again and looked down, but his eyes drew me back like a magnet. He was so open, it was like I couldn\u2019t lie to him in response.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d I said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t mean anything.\u201d Aiden\u2019s eyes darted away, down towards the book as if he was really paying attention to it, but his head stayed tilted towards me. \u201cOh,\u201d he said as if considering.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of gotta be cold for skiing,\u201d I chuckled. \u201cAnd snowboarding,\u201d Davies pointed out. \u201cAnd hot chicks on sheepskin rugs by fires.\u201d I laughed. Yeah, that sounded about right for Davies\u2019 motivation to come on winter vacay. Another car pulled up beside us, crunching snow under winter tires, and we turned to greet the new group of our friends arriving. There was no chance it was someone else. We\u2019d managed to club together enough of us to book out the whole valley \u2013 all six chalets.<\/p>\n

Oliver Harvey leaned out of the driver\u2019s side window to whoop at us, making all three of us cheer while he and his passengers got out. The car was full \u2013 Olly had brought his boyfriend, Keaton, which was expected.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
