Harriet wasn’t sure whether she liked the moustache or not. In plays, she had been kissed by men wearing false beards and whiskers, but stage kisses hardly counted; Rex was the first man with a moustache to kiss her for real.

He had been looking round the pub, interestedly examining a collection of old horse brasses that adorned the blackened beams, but he must have felt her eyes on him because he turned his head quickly and caught her watching him. His hand reached out to cover hers and he gave an experienced, knowing smile. It came to Harriet then, that most girls would have jumped at the chance of being shown round America by him—even without the offer of a job. To have an affair with Rex Kynaston must be quite an experience—until he let you know that it was over and he was ready to move on to the next girl!

Did he let you down lightly and tactfully, Harry wondered, so that you remained friends and could look back on it as a happy time, or did he just throw you out like an old and broken toy? ‘Ready to go?’ Rex asked, his hand lightly stroking hers. Harriet nodded and waited while he paid the bill and signed a menu for the barmaid, who gazed him in awestruck admiration.

It was dark outside, but it was a warm, moonlit night and there were quite a few people sitting outside the pub at wooden tables having a drink, and there were even children still playing on the village green opposite. `Let’s take a walk, shall we?’ Rex suggested. `I don’t think I’m quite ready to fold myself into that car of yours yet .’ So they skirted the village green and turned into a lane that went past a row of cottages and then gave on to open fields, newly cut and harvested, the sweet smell of cut hay still hovering in the air.

Rex had his arm across her shoulders as they walked, a habit he seemed to have, and they strolled slowly along in companionable silence, content to just savour the beauty and stillness of the night after their meal and the wine.

Sally Wentworth – Dishonourable Intentions Rex could have any woman he wanted… Except Harriet Sutton. Before shed even met him, Harriet disliked Rex Kynaston. She expected the American actor to be a vain playboy who could ruin the project they were to work on together. When Rex arrived in England, Harriet gave him the cold shoulder, but to her chagrin he seemed determined to win her over.

And, she had to admit, he turned out to be likable and talented. Although he scoffed at romance, Rex made it clear that he wanted Harriet. But she wanted more–caring, trust, commitment–love …. DISHONOURABLE INTENTIONS SALLY WENTWORTH CHAPTER ONE ‘Ok, girls. Now you’ve all read the script and you know the basic plot: a young American girl who is living in London gets murdered and her fiancé comes over to try to find out who did it.

And he starts by suspecting her three flat-mates. Played by you three.’ The director paused to look at the faces of the young actresses listening to him intently and nodded approvingly; the casting department had chosen well. Theses girls were all keen and had enough experience to take direction, but not so much that they would try to push their own ideas for the parts on him. ‘We intend to shoot most of the studio scenes first,’ he went on, ‘and do the location shots later.

Now today, after you’ve been to wardrobe, I want you to familiarize yourselves with the sets we’ve erected of the London flat where most of the action take place. You’ve been given a shooting schedule, and you’ll see that we’re going to spend the first few days doing the scenes leading up to the murder.

So I want you all to know your lines ready for tomorrow morning. OK. Now, do any of you have any questions?’ he asked, looking around. Harriet Sutton shook her head decisively when the director’s eyes met hers; she had already studied the script so thoroughly that she was word-perfect in nearly every scene in the film in which the character she played, a girl called Nicky Wells, was to appear.

‘I have a question,’ one of the other girls offered. Her name, Harriet recalled, was Emma Page and she was short and blonde. ‘When does Rex Kynaston get here? I’m dying to meet him!’ The director and the other girls laughed at her enthusiasm. ‘Not for another week,’ the director answered. ‘He’s tied up with his television series until then. But when he does arrive we’ll give him a welcome party so that you can all meet him. Has anyone any other questions?’

This is a short excerpt from the opening of “” by Unknown, quoted for review and introduction purposes.
