We ate the rest of the meal in near silence; the clink of silverware and the occasional murmur were the only sounds. My appetite had all but vanished, though I forced myself to eat enough to keep up appearances. Everyone\u2019s minds were on the same thing\u2014the sheer genius of the plan and how close it had already come to succeeding. Eve finished her potion as we cleared the table.<\/p>\n

Her movements were brisk but precise as she poured the shimmering liquid into two small vials. She capped them tightly before turning to us, her expression unreadable. \u201cLet\u2019s go see Voss,\u201d she said simply, her voice cutting through the lingering tension like a knife. I nodded, standing. Whatever was happening, it was time to get some answers.<\/p>\n

When we entered the ring, Voss was already there, standing at its center with his arms crossed. The training area was empty, and I assumed he\u2019d dismissed his trainees for the day. His eyes locked onto mine as I approached, and the moment we got closer, the pull hit me like a freight train. The air between us felt electric, and I knew he felt it too.<\/p>\n

His wolf was close to the surface, evident in the amber flecks glowing in his gaze. It was the same restless energy and inexplicable attraction that had been haunting me for days. My cougar practically purred in response, and my breath hitched. Eve stepped between us, her tone controlled. \u201cHold it together for a second,\u201d she said, her eyes darting between us. \u201cAnd for the love of God, don\u2019t do anything rash.<\/p>\n

This may be uncomfortable for a minute.\u201d I tore my eyes away from Voss to glance at Eve, her words grounding me just enough to keep from stepping closer.<\/p>\n
