In recent years, Tom has been seen at most high-value car auctions providing his expertise in paint and body repair, or building custom Harley-Davidson motor- cycles and engines. Tom and his wife Jessica spend their weekends cruising their \u201971 Westfalia Camper to VW events in NorCal. A few years ago, Tom learned that Henry Marchena and Dave \u201cPip\u201d Pipoly were working on a special project to profile their craftsmanship. Tom inquired about the project and worked out the purchase of the \u201957 Euro Oval.<\/p>\n

The car was in rough shape when Henry Marchena Resto- ration disassembled it, before sending the body to Orange County Sand- blasting. Once the shell was back at Henry\u2019s, the crew began the rigorous process of correcting the sheet metal, original fenders, and hood. They used PPG Glass Tron, Porsche Chalk Grey paint for a beautiful look. Henry\u2019s vision to build a unique \u201957 involved Pip at The Compound Restoration.<\/p>\n

Pip, Mike Davis, and Bob Lacoste were tasked to build a show-stopping chassis. It was disassembled and sand blasted at Orange County Sandblasting. New Wolfsburg West pan halves were welded within factory specs. The crew didn\u2019t stop there; they smoothed the tunnel from years of damage, reinforced the clutch tube, and installed a new fuel line. The chassis was painted by Mark Hunter in Huntington Beach, CA.<\/p>\n

Once the painted chassis was back at The Compound, the incredible crafts- manship began. Old Speed provided a narrowed front beam, which Pip and his crew completely detailed and painted \u2014 the Empi 5x130mm rotors and Wilwood disc brakes kit were beautifully finished as well. Torx bolts, acorn nuts, and socket screws were chromed for a flawless appear- ance. The Pro Street Plus transmission from Wound Tight Performance in Huntington Beach also received The Compound\u2019s \u201cspecial treatment\u201d with a powder-coated case, chrome axle tubes, and detailed bolts.<\/p>\n

Pip dressed the Stacy Sizelove- built 2165cc long block with custom fitted cylinder covers and a fan shroud. This also included welding all the joints and excess holes. Ronnie Solo reworked the Redline Weber 48 IDA carbs, as well as the JayCee custom accessories, hidden wires, and the A-1 exhaust system from Tiger Vasquez in Santa Ana, CA. The outcome looks supe- rior to a traditional Beverly Hills \u201cNip\/ Tuck\u201d! The chassis was also outfitted with Empi-style Porsche Fuchs from Hans Detailed Fuchs in Chino Hills, CA. The final step involved marrying the body and chassis, before sending this stunner back to Henry Marchena Restoration.<\/p>\n

Henry\u2019s team started with the interior, correcting and detailing the frames, as well as other components. The seats, door panels, and posts were wrapped in authentic red Porsche leather.<\/p>\n
