M was used to seeing them. They were everywhere in the slums and always littered with dead birds. Sometimes in winter the street people would use the fence to start a small fire so sometimes there were blackened areas—not that the fences ever burned down. No, but the sight to M was the sign of oppression.

She always considered herself to be on the wrong side of fences like these. “They don’t need cameras here,” Ciprio said as he walked a few feet from the fence’s base, searching for something on the ground. “Not when they have a fence like this.” M wanted to tell the boy to be careful, but she knew he wanted to prove something, more than he wanted to get her home.

“Here!” He dropped to his knees and began moving aside loose dirt and leaves. He looked behind him a M who just watched warily. “Come on,” he invited. “Careful of the dead birds. I guess they still can’t read the signs.” M went over to the crazy boy and saw a shallow tunnel becoming visible—shallow being the operative word. He laughed boyishly. “It’s fine, M!” After speaking to Rafe, Karma felt so much relief. Lately, it seemed as if they had been getting hit after hit and it was great to get one in favor for their team. Justina had opened a bottle of wine and they were preparing to celebrate. She looked down at Runnar, who was just content to be held in her arms and in the company of his aunties.

“No, I’m still nursing. I have to tell M the good news!” She hurried from the room and out to the large courtyard. “M?” she called. It was beautiful out here. She inhaled the clean air and felt a smile cross her face. Hour by hour, her depression lessened. Of course, it would, despite everything she was in paradise.

A Word From The Author Hello, and welcome back. I am sure you are familiar with my author notes from the prior five books, so I will change it up a bit and respond to one of the biggest questions I get concerning The Galatian Exchange: Will I continue the story where the Kindle Vella left off. Yes, I will. I am working hard to publish this series for all to read— especially those who were unable to access Kindle Vella in countries outside of the United States.

Also, I have no plans to release this story behind a pay wall such as patreon. In truth, it is nice to take a break from writing twice weekly episodes. I hope you are enjoying the journey as much as I enjoy writing it. As a reminder, the series should be read in order and is intended for mature readers as it contains adult content such as sex, language, abuse and racism. -PP OceanofPDF.com ©Pepper Pace Publications Copyright © 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 The Galatian Exchange, book 6 Eden.

Pepper Pace.
