The incubus had watched Persius, Thierry, and Ryker run around the house, looking for her, before finally giving up and reconvening in the living room. They could have just sniffed the air and known her scent was far, far away.<\/p>\n

The kitchen counter was covered in pans of scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, and muffins that the three made for Nix as a \u201cgood morning\u201d breakfast. \u201cDo you really think she heard us?\u201d Persius asked. \u201cWe should have gone to the woods to talk.\u201d Thierry fingered his glasses. \u201cWhat were we thinking?\u201d \u201cNeed to find her,\u201d Ryker grunted, scratching at his chest like his heart wanted to pop out of his body and fly to wherever she was. \u201cLucky for us, she is in our first morning class,\u201d Bael said.<\/p>\n

Persius\u2019s face lit up. \u201cI will change my class schedule immediately\u2014\u201d \u201cDude, you are in those classes for a reason,\u201d Bael reminded him. \u201cTwo students have already disappeared so far this semester, both of whom were in your second period.\u201d \u201cBut\u2026\u201d \u201cWe still need to find out who is stealing students of rare species. Nix could be next.\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t put that thought in my head,\u201d Thierry scolded him. \u201cLeaving,\u201d Ryker said impatiently and walked through the front door of the house to head to the academy to find Nix.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a school dance tonight,\u201d Bael said. \u201cLast semester, three students went missing after the big dance. It\u2019s a hotspot for shifters who are drinking and not paying attention to their surroundings. We need to focus tonight.\u201d \u201cYou think someone might try to grab Nix at the dance?\u201d Bael waved off that concern. \u201cNixie will be surrounded by her mates. Plus, remember that she can burst into flame at any moment. No one will try for her\u2014it would be a stupid move.\u201d \u201cSo, we are taking her to the dance and staking out the place at the same time?\u201d<\/p>\n

Persius clarified. \u201cI call dibs on first dance.\u201d \u201cI will meet with Bowen this morning about a potion for Nix,\u201d Thierry said. Bael scoffed, \u201cAgain with the power-muting thing?\u201d \u201cFine. A protection potion, then.<\/p>\n
