Without saying a word, the Senator checked to see if there was a round in the chamber and then checked the magazine. \u201cThank you, Doctor. Please send Gina Riker in to see me.\u201d \u201cOf course, Senator.\u201d \u201cTHE KID SHOT YOU, HUH?\u201d Gina said as she came through the door. \u201cActually, it wasn’t Yeti. He had a two-shot derringer but he missed with both rounds.<\/p>\n

I am not sure he was trying to hit me.\u201d \u201cThen…\u201d \u201cIt was that little brat of a girl, the one that they picked up with Pepper. She shot us with one of Tar’s Mac 10s.\u201d \u201cHow old is that child?\u201d \u201cEight or nine, I would guess.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI should\u2019ve paid more attention to her,\u201d Gina said. \u201cI think I made a mistake. I underestimated that child.\u201d \u201cYou made another mistake as well.\u201d Gina seemed puzzled, \u201cWhat…\u201d The Senator removed his pistol from under the covers. \u201cYou underestimated my reaction to your failure.\u201d \u201cSenator, be reasonable. You can’t do this…\u201d<\/p>\n

Gina’s eyes were locked onto the silvery glint of the pistol. The senator smiled. None of his advisers, except Tar, were allowed to carry a weapon, ever. \u201cOf course I can. You yourself said that there are no more laws.\u201d OceanofPDF.com Wayne \u201cOklahoma sucks,\u201d Dave complained. \u201cI think you mean that running from a bunch of Stinks sucks in any state?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, yeah. Hey, just think, Wayne, if we could trade deodorant to those Stinks, we could get rich and retire to Barbados.\u201d \u201cWhy Barbados?\u201d \u201cNo Stinks.\u201d \u201cThat we know of.\u201d \u201cHey, here comes Cap. I wonder if he and Sam figured out how to move our column faster?\u201d \u201cWayne, Dave,\u201d Cap nodded.<\/p>\n

This was the first time Cap deigned to speak directly to Dave. \u201cDr. McKay has an idea, and I think it\u2019s pretty good.\u201d \u201cYeah?\u201d \u201cMcKay and Sam think we should abandon all the horses and stock, and load everybody we can in the travel trailers behind the tank. He says we\u2019ll make better time.\u201d \u201cUntil we run out of fuel. Then we\u2019ll be on foot.\u201d Dave said, \u201cAnd the Stinks could catch us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, Wayne,\u201d Cap paused. \u201cYou too, Dave.\u201d Cap’s opinion of Dave had gone up exponentially when Dave killed a Stink who managed to get into our circle with his bare hands the last time the Stinks attacked. \u201cWe lost another ten men in the previous attack. If we continue like this, those Stinks will just whittle us down.\u201d \u201cYeah, I see that too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSam agrees. We need to make a run for it, a mechanized run for it.\u201d \u201cWhat about fuel?\u201d \u201cWe have enough fuel for a little over 100 miles. We\u2019ll have to find more fuel along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n
