Once she heard that Matthews died in a car crash, she called me.\u201d I\u2019ve been called full of shit too many times to count in my life, but there is nothing quite like a cop\u2019s face when they aren\u2019t buying it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you think Nathaniel Crowder drove this guy off the road? That\u2019s your big theory?\u201d \u201cOf course not. He\u2019s not getting his hands dirty. But I\u2019ve got reason to believe he\u2019s got his own private security company.\u201d \u201cThis is some bullshit,\u201d he said, reaching for his phone. I went for mine, opened the folder where I kept my case files, and showed him the Lexus\u2019s license plate. \u201cRun that plate,\u201d I told him. \u201cYou\u2019re going to find it\u2019s registered to a shell company.<\/p>\n

You can roll them up. Go up far enough, you\u2019re going to see that Crowder is funding this outfit somehow, and is doing a great job hiding it.\u201d The latter part was hypothesis, but the only reasonable one.<\/p>\n
