Times were different, I was different, and the state of our country was much different. While creating that universe, as you see in Punished, Efren was incarcerated, deported, and then reentered the country with Silas. Please note that his experience is fictional. Because of that, I held off on fully diving into that aspect of his story not only because of the current state of our country, but also I did not feel comfortable writing a story and profiting off something that is a scary reality many are facing today.<\/p>\n

I prefer you read a firsthand account of what happens and understand that the process is more difficult than this fictional book leads on. There is rarely an easy transition back into the United States, or someone like Silas Macias, to just bring you back, no questions asked. As always, my views remain the same.
