what I wanted to ask was\u2026\u201d She clicks her teeth, flashing him an anxious grin. \u201cCan we go somewhere where we can be alone?\u201d Gods help him. \u201cThe people around us are not real. We are alone now,\u201d he replies. Patting his chest, she stares at his neck like it is the most interesting thing in the world. \u201cI-I know\u2026 but it still feels like they\u2019re watching us.\u201d He stares at the figures on the dance floor, their blurry faces swaying around them with no discernible features.<\/p>\n

There is no reason to deny her request, but he suspects she has another motive for wanting to be rid of any prying eyes. \u201cDo you not wish to dance anymore? I did not think I was that terrible,\u201d he says, huffing a laugh. She rolls her bottom lip through her teeth and wraps her arms around his neck again, just like she did during the slow dance. \u201cNo, it\u2019s not that\u2026 When we\u2019re pressed together like this, it reminds me how much I enjoy the softness of your feathers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou may touch them all you like,\u201d he blurts, a little overzealous. She snickers, tucking her chin. \u201cI\u2019ve been wanting to ask if I could touch the span of your wings, but I\u2019ve been too nervous. When I run my hands through your feathers, it makes me wonder what the rest of you feels like, you know?\u201d Oh, he definitely knows. \u201cAny human would be curious to know what an \u2018angel\u2019 feels like beneath their fingertips, so there is nothing to be nervous about,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

The prospect of her hands exploring his body has his every atom shaking. \u201cIt\u2019s just that we have a limited time together, and I\u2019d rather spend it learning about one another instead of dancing. Especially since I\u2019m so bad at it,\u201d she says, her gaze lifting. \u201cUnless you want to, because another slow dance \u2014\u201d \u201cI do not care about dancing.\u201d For some reason, she seems surprised by his statement. While she cannot read minds, he thought he was ever so clear about his desire to fulfill her every whim.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will take us somewhere private,\u201d he says, suppressing the urge to pull her closer. The desire to succumb to lust will not take him, as his need for her favor is much stronger. \u201cThank you, Asta. I apologize if my request is a little weird,\u201d she says with an impish grimace.<\/p>\n

Oh, how he wishes to read her mind, but she did not react well the first time he did. In truth, if he were to process the full implications of her request, he might vaporize on the spot, just like the bottles he struck in the game. He should expect innocence, even if his restraint is bursting at the seams.<\/p>\n

Creating my angel was a true callback to my days sitting in the pews, imagining what angels truly looked like: multiple heads, no bodies, no limbs or extra limbs \u2014 it was a horror fan\u2019s dream!
