You know how Bryson is.\u201d \u201cTrue\u2026but\u2026damn\u2026\u201d Derrick was at a loss for words. \u201cSo I\u2019m the only one who knows?\u201d \u201cYup,\u201d I said, fucking with him just to get inside his head.<\/p>\n

I wanted him to feel like he could trust me so that he eventually let his guard down. If he felt like we had something in common\u2014 something that was as intimate as our sexuality\u2014he would feel like he could place his confidence in me. And that\u2019s when I would pounce. \u201cDamn\u2026I would\u2019ve never guessed,\u201d he said. \u201cThe girls go gaga whenever they see you, man. I always thought you were hetero.\u201d \u201cYou thought wrong,\u201d I lied. \u201cNot even close.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNow I know why you never entertained any of the girls at our school,\u201d he pointed out. I shrugged. \u201cNot my speed.\u201d Derrick smiled shyly. \u201cI feel ya, bro. Not mine either\u2026clearly,\u201d he said. \u201cMind if I take a seat?\u201d he asked, pointing to the empty chair beside me. I deliberately pulled it closer to me.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course,\u201d I said with a flir- ty grin. Derrick sat down beside me, looking more nervous than a long- tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. If he knew what I had planned for him, he would\u2019ve run as fast and as far as he could. \u201cSo, uh, do you go to any of the other bars in O-Town?\u201d<\/p>\n

Derrick asked, making small talk. I assumed he was talking about gay bars. \u201cNo, not really,\u201d I said. \u201cI\u2019m kinda new on the scene, if you know what I mean.\u201d Derrick quickly put two and two together, assuming that I was freshly out of the closet.<\/p>\n

\u201cGotcha,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s actually a spot \u2018bout ten minutes from here, called Inches.\u201d \u201cOh really\u2026\u201d \u201cInches is the name of the club, but it\u2019s also how you order how much alcohol you want in your drink,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe\u2019ll have to slide through sometime,\u201d I told him. Derrick looked elated. \u201cYeah. Definitely!\u201d I looked around the bar to make sure none of the patrons were watching us or eavesdropping. \u201cYou know\u2026I\u2019m not really that big on nightlife,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow \u2018bout we go somewhere private. I wanna vibe and just enjoy each other\u2019s company.\u201d Derrick happily agreed. \u201cThat sounds like a plan! Where\u2019d you have in mind?\u201d he asked. \u201cThere\u2019s a bed and breakfast on Heritage Road,\u201d I told him. \u201cIf you\u2019re down, we could get a room and\u2026see where things go\u2026\u201d Derrick licked his lips.<\/p>\n
