I kept my manager on a tight leash, I whipped my employees into shape, I bull- dozed the competition…17M DOING EVERYTHING (All the appliances in the room glow menacingly, the sky changes color outside, and the room darkens. Perhaps foreboding music plays.) (SEGIS is frightened. The fax machine beeps. A fax comes in.) (SEGIS slowly moves to the machine. He retrieves the fax.<\/p>\n

He reads.) \u201cTo Segis Basil. From Bill Basil. Subject: You.\u201d (A jolt of excitement passing through SEGIS. ) Dad… (The fax machine beeps again, still menacingly. A second page comes in. SEGIS reads. ) \u201cSon: I had hoped your noble blood would trump your unfortunate upbringing. I can\u2019t tell you what a disap- pointment this has been.\u201d (to the air.) I\u2019m sorry, Dad…I\u2019m not sure where I screwed up… (reading) \u201cYou were handed a multi-billion dollar enterprise overnight, one for which you did not lift a digit. It could disappear just as quickly.<\/p>\n

Neither of us wants that.\u201d (to the air) I know…I can do better…just tell me how…. (reading) SEGIS. (cont.) \u201cIn review: Consider this a warning. Do not abuse the extraordinary privilege you\u2019ve been given.\u201d (to the air) But how do I not do that? (silence) I don\u2019t know what I\u2019m doing! (silence) Hello? (Silence. SEGIS works himself up again.) Why did you bring me up here?<\/p>\n

Whose dream is this? (The fax machine beeps again. A third page comes in. SEGIS reads. ) \u201cThe dream is your own. Do with it what you will. End transmission.\u201d (to the air) (Nothing. ) (Suddenly, SEGIS grips his heart.) Ow! What the. OWW! (Huge pain. He writhes from it. This is Big Deal Pain, a pain he\u2019s never felt before. He is doubled over. He moans. ) (ROSE knocks and enters. She is wearing a corporate casual ensemble, vastly different from her scrubby mes- senger outfit. ) ROSE.<\/p>\n

Mr. President Sir, I wondered if I could trouble you \u2014 are you okay? (ROSE squints at SEGIS.) ROSE. Holy moley. It\u2019s YOU. SEGIS. Go away. ROSE. I mean they said you got a promotion, but President \u2014 (recognizing her) The bike messenger. In a suit. ROSE. It\u2019s not mine. Listen, Head Honcho and all that, I need you to get me a meeting with Aston Martin.<\/p>\n

The future of this company depends on it. SEGIS. I don\u2019t give a shit about the company. I want that woman back. ROSE. Then why did they put you in charge? SEGIS. I have no idea. I want that woman back… ROSE. Whose idea was it to promote you? SEGIS.<\/p>\n
