Mark (not meaning to be unkind) You’re stupid, Verity. It was your own fault. There\u2019s no point blaming anybody. Jean Don\u2019t tease her, Mark. Edward You’ll have forgotten about it by morning. Mark Well, say something why don\u2019t you. They move toward her, Jean and Edward with their arms outstretched Verity (throwing out her arms to stop them.<\/p>\n

Ferociously) Don\u2019t touch me! Verity back\u00ab away from them and then rushes off, shouting Don\u2019t touch me! Leave me alone. Don\u2019t touch me! No! No! No! Neetz! Neetz! Neetz! Black-out. In the darkness we hear banging and thumping and Verity\u2019s voice howling, growling and screaminz out incoherent words. The voices of Edward, Mark and Jean come from different places on the stage Jean Verity, where are you?<\/p>\n

What are you doing? Oh Edward, Edward! She\u2019s torn up all my photographs and my letters. Look, look\u2014she\u2019s torn up everything. Oh God, Edward, stop her. What\u2019s she doing? Edward I can\u2019t. She\u2019s locked herself in the bathroom. There is a sound of pounding on a door Verity, come out! Come out! There is the sound of rushing water as Verity goes on shouting Mark Dad, there\u2019s water coming out from under the door.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s flooding the bathroom. She\u2019!l flood the whole house. Edward Veritv, come out! Stop that! Come out of there! Jean (crying) Oh my God, my God, my God. Mark Stop her. Dad. I’m afraid. Verity (in a huge voice) L.ook out! Get out of my way! The Lights come up on Verity IV all alone on the stage. She is wearing a bizarre collection of clothes, and a wig with half the hair cut off it. She has make-up all over her face like a wild mask of warpaint Look out!<\/p>\n

Can\u2019t you see? I\u2019m the bomb! I\u2019m the atom bomb! Don\u2019t touch me. Don\u2019t come near me!<\/p>\n
