Or had he been referencing the expedition to find Attila\u2019s tomb? Or something else altogether? Before I had a chance to seek clarification, Heath\u2019s cellphone rang.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry, Laney, that\u2019s probably Li,\u201d he said, fishing around the pocket of his cargo pants to retrieve it. \u201cLi, hi,\u201d he spoke into the receiver. \u201cYes, I\u2019m here with her now\u2026 No, she wants to stay\u2026 Yes.\u201d He glanced at me. \u201cI was glad to hear that as well.\u201d My cheeks flushed at the sentiment. \u201cOkay, we\u2019ll grab our things and meet you on the street side of the hotel in\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

He regarded me again. \u201cUh, forty-five minutes?\u201d I nodded, glancing down at my watch; that gave me just enough time to properly kick off my experiment. \u201cGreat. See you soon, Li.\u201d Heath stuffed his phone back in his pocket. My pulse quickened. Chewing the inside of my cheek, I turned to Topie.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, Topes?\u201d He looked up at me, left ear twitching. \u201cGo wash up and pack your things for the trip, okay? I have, uh\u2026 something I need to talk to Heath about. Um, in his room.\u201d \u201cOh?\u201d Heath\u2019s right eyebrow arched. \u201cMmhmm,\u201d I replied, dipping my gaze to the ground. After opening the back door of my room for Topie, then locking it behind him, I followed Heath to his room, just a few doors down. The moment he closed the door behind us, he turned to me.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs everything\u2014\u201d My lips crushed against his, cutting off his question. Heath gasped, his hands freezing midair as though he didn\u2019t quite know where to put them. So, I made the decision for him, placing his palms firmly atop my breasts.<\/p>\n
