What if it\u2019s too much to handle?\u201d I raise my finger to bite my pinky nail. \u201cI\u2019ll have to spend a lot of time with you for the next several weeks to get the shots I need.\u201d \u201cStill not hearing anything that wouldn\u2019t make my day better.\u201d He winks.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re sure? Like really sure? This is a big deal, Hart.\u201d \u201cLiza, look at me.\u201d His voice turns stern and serious as I lift my chin to meet his eyes. \u201cI want to do this.\u201d \u201cOkay.\u201d I nod. \u201cThank you.\u201d He moves to walk away from the table. \u201cOh no, no, no. Get your notes out so we can make sure you pass your quiz.\u201d \u201cYes, ma\u2019am.\u201d With that, we get to the nitty gritty of his art history content.<\/p>\n

He has a quiz later this week, so we double down on the flash card review, until he knows these artists like the back of his hand. \u201cI think that\u2019s enough for today.\u201d I slam my binder shut and shuffle the color coded flashcards I made him for this quiz back in a Ziploc bag. Tossing the bag across the table, I say, \u201cKeep these in case you need to review a few more times before the quiz.<\/p>\n

It couldn\u2019t hurt.\u201d I sling my light book bag over one shoulder and turn to walk away before Hartley stops me in my tracks. \u201cWait!\u201d His volume evaporates the quiet bubble of the study room. \u201cWhen and where do you want to draw me first? I\u2019m at your beck and call.\u201d He crosses his arms over his chest and bites his bottom lip, looking too good for me to drag my eyes off of him.<\/p>\n

\u201cUhh, are you free tomorrow?\u201d He responds with a silent nod. \u201cWe could start with a locker room session if you\u2019re okay with that.\u201d \u201cLet me run it by Coach. If we get there before report time, we\u2019ll have the locker room to ourselves.\u201d \u201cThat would be perfect.<\/p>\n

Thank you again, Hartley. It means a lot to me.\u201d My cheeks blaze in a fiery heat. \u201cSee you tomorrow.\u201d He juts his chin out, and my eyes linger on his last word longer than usual. I squeeze out the study room before I do something stupid like giving him a kiss on the cheek.<\/p>\n

Woah. Where did that thought come from? I\u2019m about to double, maybe even triple, my weekly meet ups with him.<\/p>\n

I might as well enjoy my last party before I leave for college. Before I can make a move on this chick, a hard thump hits my back.<\/p>\n

\u201cDude, we\u2019re going to miss you this season.\u201d My high school quarterback, Leo, wraps his arm around my shoulder. \u201cDang right. You\u2019ll never see another receiver like me.\u201d \u201cMhmmm.\u201d The girl clears her throat as she stares back at me with a pout on her delicious red lips, goading me to pay attention to her. \u201cWe were talking.\u201d She rolls her eyes at Leo for interrupting whatever we were about to do.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
