(The Soviets held him in such high regard that the town\u2019s name was changed to Repino after its annexation from Finland.)<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of Repin\u2019s paintings are in Russia \u2014 now out of reach for most Western admirers \u2014 and it has been decades since a major retrospective graced a European museum.
