All Echo’s snark had earned him was a chuckle and another kiss that had to test Crade’s restraint if his moans were anything to go by. Echo, Crade, Dras’s whisper interrupted them too soon. Crade’s hands slid out of Echo’s hair, where Echo had directed them earlier. Stroking Echo’s face with the back of his fingers, Crade didn’t take his eyes off him. \u201cWhat is it, Dras?\u201d Crade asked softly, most of his attention still on Echo. Rox is looking for you. \u201cShit!\u201d Crade snapped out of the moment. Sitting up in his chair, he snapped a reflexive arm around Echo to keep him from falling off.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs he close?\u201d Echo asked. \u201cCan I sneak out of here?\u201d He’s a corridor away. As long as you don’t lead him back here, you’ll be fine. Also, take the data loop from Crade’s console. \u201cThanks, Dras,\u201d Echo said as he hopped off Crade’s lap in a hurry. Leaning down, he pressed a quick goodbye kiss to Crade’s lips that the man chased when Echo pulled away.<\/p>\n

Echo couldn’t pretend that single moment hadn’t given him ideas. Ideas before which they’d need to talk. As Echo left with the data loop in his pocket to ‘accidentally run into’ Rox, he couldn’t remember a time when he’d looked forward to a conversation this much. The moment they’d boarded, Echo could have sworn the ship itself had surrendered. The second the crew cleared the airlock, even the oxygen in his lungs felt brighter, somehow. Echo would have preferred to stay back on the Roaring Lion, but for a catch this large, the raiding party was all hands on deck.<\/p>\n

Echo could only hope his cut would be large enough to cover the extensive repairs the chase had left the Lion with. The minute the crew realized what he’d done to get them here, it’d be his fault. The ship didn’t smell of anything so far as Echo could tell, which was an improvement over the Lion, crammed full of too many men and often not enough soap. The emptiness of the ship frayed Echo’s nerves as their small crew of six men marched down the off-white polycrom corridor, steps echoing through the bones of their prey, their boots streaking the untouched floor with the Lion’s grime.<\/p>\n

As they passed slim arches every few dozen or so feet, Echo couldn’t help thinking they were walking into the belly of a beast. He hoped it’d get Vulture first. They spread out in the only formation they knew, goons following behind the captain. Echo was happy to bring up the rear; the further he got from both Vulture and Wombat, the better. Which was exactly why he only heard when both goons got what they’d wanted.<\/p>\n

By the time Echo rounded the corner, the sole defender of the ship was already on his knees, Vulture towering above him like a hellhound in a muscle shirt.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
