Keep your promise!\u201d My promise. Something heavy lands on my chest, again and again. It\u2019s the only thing I feel. A pounding against my heart, each one coming in harder and harder, faster and faster. But then it stops. Air fills my lungs, and I open my eyes. Slowly, the blackness fades, and my hand finds the hair of the girl whose head is resting on my shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>Rys. Her entire body trembles the moment my fingers weave into her hair. \u201cI\u2019m all right,\u201d I manage to whisper. My other hand finds her fist, clenched tight over the place my heart beats a steady rhythm. \u201cI\u2019m all right,\u201d I repeat, and she raises her head to look at me. She trembles again. \u201cWe keep our promises.\u201d I brush away her tears, and she releases a sob. \u201cWe\u2019re never doing that again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her voice is raw, thick with pain. I want to agree with her. I want to never put her through that again\u2026 only it worked. What she was able to do with that much energy\u2026By the Omri, I can barely believe it. \u201cI didn\u2019t know you could do that,\u201d I murmur, the sight of her levitating off the ground flashing before my eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat makes two of us.\u201d She grabs my hand, kissing my palm, and a cough interrupts us from behind. We have an audience. Ash &#8211; a full-blooded Voiden, someone who can use the Void to travel, send their thoughts into the minds of others, and transcend to a different realm while they sleep. Briar (BRY-er) &#8211; A skilled fighter and a half-blooded Voiden. She\u2019s also Ash\u2019s best friend. Cobra (KO-bruh) &#8211; A Voiden who is one of the Council Elders. Dax &#8211; a Voiden who was best friends with Ash and Briar, until he betrayed them. She\u2019s a trained healer, and a member of the Council. She\u2019s been in love with Ash for most of her life. Elsovor (EL-suh-vor) &#8211; Leader of Alnavara. He was the prince of the kingdom of Hara and over one thousand years ago, the kingdom of Hara merged with the kingdom of Verosee, making him the ruler of the entire continent.<\/p>\n<p>At the age of twenty-one, he took the Eternal Youth Elixir. He will never age another day. His main goal is ridding the land of all Voiden. Fiora (fee-OR-uh) \u2013 The sister of Ash\u2019s deceased mother, making her Ash\u2019s aunt by blood.
