Now I wondered if she\u2019d been letting me believe that, waiting for the right moment to remind me I wasn\u2019t as clever as I thought. \u201cI\u2019m not sure who\u2019s worse, you or Q,\u201d I grumbled, kicking a can further down the alley.<\/p>\n

Quentin\u2019s nicer and doesn\u2019t call you out on shit as much.\u201d I clicked my teeth, knowing she was right. \u201cI might\u2019ve said something to a girl they like.\u201d \u201cThey? Did Max and Q finally admit their feelings?\u201d she asked, surprising the shit out of me. \u201cWhat?\u201d I spluttered again, my head feeling dizzy. What else had I missed? \u201cI swear you act like you\u2019re the boss and know everything about your team, but it doesn\u2019t seem you\u2019re as close as you believe.<\/p>\n

Those two have been dancing around each other for years, either too naive to understand their feelings or too afraid. Maybe a little of both. I wondered if it would take a woman they both liked to face it. So, are they going to be poly now? Or just a triad?\u201d \u201cWhat the fuck are you talking about?\u201d I hissed, not appreciating how much her words stung. Here lately, I wondered if I knew either of them. Perhaps I had been deluding myself. Putting up too many walls that even my team couldn\u2019t climb.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet with the times, Grady. Love is love. Don\u2019t be a square and stand in their way. If they\u2019re happy, that\u2019s all that matters. Who\u2019s this woman? She must be pretty special to make them both lower their guard and let her in, and in the process, open the door for them to be vulnerable with each other.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d say I was surprised you haven\u2019t thrown your hat in the ring, but you\u2019re so walled up, a naked woman could be standing in front of you, and you\u2019d look past her, wondering why everyone was staring.\u201d My mind blanked as I let her words sink in. I wasn\u2019t in the mood to look too closely on today of all days, but it was also a nice distraction from remembering the worst day of my life. \u201cYou\u2019re delusional. You need to see someone,\u201d I muttered, changing the topic.<\/p>\n
