Ginger and I had figured it’d be about $2 a shirt. But Bonnie leaned over the counter, so Lenny had a clear view of her generous cleavage and asked, \u201cCould you do it for $1.80 per shirt?\u201d \u201cGee, that doesn’t leave me much of a profit.\u201d Arching her back, Bonnie said, \u201cHow about if I throw in a pair of front row tickets and introduce you to the rest of the band?\u201d He grinned, as if unable to believe his good fortune. \u201cYou\u2019ve got a deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne more thing,\u201d Bonnie said, rubbing her hand up and down his arm. I was afraid he might blow his load right there on the spot. \u201cI need these ready, by 5:00 Thursday. You can do that, right?\u201d \u201cWell, it\u2019ll mean working all night tonight and tomorrow, and I might have to put off a couple of other jobs, but why not? For you, I will do it.\u201d After kissing him on the cheek, she left it to me to handle the details.<\/p>\n

I handed over a folder with the band\u2019s logo. After he looked at it, Lenny said, \u201cPretty simple design. It doesn\u2019t cost any extra if you want to add a line of copy beneath the logo.\u201d After considering for a moment, I slid a piece of paper in front of me and picked up a pen from the counter before scratching out a few words.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you could print that in dark red right beneath the logo, I’d appreciate it.\u201d When I handed him the AmEx card for the deposit, he asked if I was the band\u2019s agent. \u201cNope, just a roadie.\u201d \u201cBoy, that’s a gig I\u2019d love to have. How did you get it?\u201d \u201cRight place, at the right time, is all.\u201d \u201cWhat’s your hurry?”<\/p>\n

Bonnie asked as I wove in and out of traffic. Not wanting to admit I was hoping to be invited to her room, I said, \u201cI’m starving, and it’s my turn to pick the pizza toppings.\u201d In the early days of Coven, there wasn\u2019t much money for things like restaurant meals. We ate a lot of fast food and pizza.<\/p>\n
