The colours were not what I was wearing today, but it was the same basic clothes, the same as the kids had been wearing. Just with actual trainee insignia. Although that had changed too. They were all wearing Emergency Mage badges, with the exception of Shaylin, who was wearing Seer.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must have missed the memo,\u201d said Maya, obviously enjoying my reaction. \u201cThis is now the official Emergency Mage uniform for anyone doing the job. The clothes for the trainees were delivered this morning.\u201d \u201cWhy do they need them?\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s in case they need to go on site, since we are getting near that stage in their training.<\/p>\n

After the first week I\u2019d started counting them, the same way work sites counted days since the last accident.<\/p>\n

Well, plenty had happened, but nothing that required major magic. No disasters, no missile attacks on planets not intercepted by mages or mosquito missiles already there for the purpose, and whoever had used those two Keerah shuttles as bombs hadn\u2019t tried again when we expected them to. It was all routine stuff, and truth to tell, I was getting bored.<\/p>\n
