The flex and release of muscle in his cheeks gives him away.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were just leaving.\u201d Fox snags Alana\u2019s hand and draws her across the room. \u201cTake five.\u201d She claps Ollie\u2019s shoulder and squeezes through the gap of the door. \u201cWe\u2019ll be waiting for you when you come out.\u201d \u201cAre you okay?\u201d He stares. Clenches his jaw. He digs his hands into his pockets, only to take them out again and ball them into fists. Release. Back into his pockets. \u201cWe can leave if\u2060\u2014\u201d \u201cYou can come in, if you want.\u201d<\/p>\n

I wrap my hands around the lip of the ceramic sink on either side of my thighs. And because he\u2019s just so\u2026 perfect, he does exactly as I say. He steps in and closes the door, and crossing the not-very-pretty tile, he comes to a stop about two feet from where I stand. \u201cI don\u2019t want to leave,\u201d I rasp. I mean, I kind of do. But it would be selfish to do so, because the man asks nothing of me except to teach me how to throw a punch.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should stay and let Eliza show me some moves.\u201d \u201cWhat do you want then?\u201d He drags his hands out of his pockets and drops them by his side. \u201cBesides Eliza teaching you something. Tell me what you need, Rose, and I\u2019ll\u2060\u2014\u201d \u201cA hug?\u201d I open my arms and wait. Like a friggin\u2019 idiot. \u201cI could really do with one of those.\u201d He closes the two feet between us and crashes against my chest, circling his arms around my torso and burying his face against my neck.<\/p>\n

His hot breath bathes my skin, his heart pounds against mine. But Eliza was right. She was so, so right. Hugs are good for us. Chuckling, he slides his palm over my back, warming me through my hoodie. \u201cI didn\u2019t mention it already?\u201d \u201cAbsolutely not. I\u2019m sure \u2018my sister is a fighting machine obligated to register her body with the U.S. government as an actual weapon\u2019 is something I\u2019d remember. Did you know she has eight abs?\u201d I pull back and look into his eyes, but I don\u2019t pull away.<\/p>\n
