I wasn\u2019t trying to eavesdrop. But these ears apparently work on their own accord. I try to focus on the numbers, let them crowd out the noise in my head, but Alice\u2019s voice keeps coming back. I review the diagram I\u2019ve created of her (our?) apartment, every measurement annotated and cross-checked, with areas for improvement noted. I grip the notebook so tightly that the metal of the spiral digs deep into my hand.<\/p>\n
