Gods, her mouth was dry. \u201cI don\u2019t\u2014what\u2014\u201d Ellara leaned in slightly, just enough that her breath was soft against Selene\u2019s skin. \u201cI\u2019m not saying this to frighten you. I\u2019m saying it because I need you to hear me before it\u2019s too late.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Selene swallowed. Tried to. Her throat had turned to ash. \u201cEllara, you\u2019re\u2014what are you talking about?\u201d \u201cThe Sunborn Elven kingdom,\u201d Ellara said. Her hands were still on Selene\u2019s face. Gentle. Steady. \u201cThey don\u2019t want a queen. They want access. To the canal.
