I was scared, and my voice was going in and out on me. \u201cWell, I forgot because I was with Kola and Jake, but I thought it was fine,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cHoney,\u201d Sam cut in. \u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d \u201cWell, see, I was at a party that my friend Becca is having in this abandoned warehouse, and I know that she shouldn\u2019t have had it somewhere without permission, but you know how sometimes in the heat of the moment your judgment\u2013\u2013\u201d \u201cHannah,\u201d Sam cut her off, but gently. \u201cSweetheart, where are you?\u201d \u201cSomewhere in New City, but I\u2019m not quite sure what street I\u2019m on.\u201d \u201cWhy don\u2019t you have your phone?\u201d he asked, pulling his from his back pocket and texting as he listened for her answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cJake was looking up something on it, so I left it with him. He\u2019s got that terrible data plan on his, so he never gets reception. We should put him on ours.\u201d \u201cYes, we should,\u201d I agreed. Sam took a breath through his nose, continuing to text. \u201cWhere are your brother and Jake?\u201d \u201cThe police raided the party, and they were picked up in a van, and I\u2019m not sure where they are at the moment.\u201d \u201cAnd why weren\u2019t you picked up?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI went outside to get some air because everyone was smoking and drinking and it was super loud, but the heavy steel door closed behind me and I couldn\u2019t get back in.\u201d My daughter had then begun the long process of going back around the building, and that was when she saw the Morkie. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, what?\u201d Sam interrupted at that point. \u201cA cross between a Maltese and a Yorkshire terrier,\u201d I explained. \u201cThey\u2019re super cute,\u201d Hannah chimed in.<\/p>\n

On my website, there are free reads like Hannah\u2019s Big Night, Ears, Eggs and Bunnies, Another Day with Jory, and Just Jory. And because of those, when I wanted to include a ficlet in my newsletter, I thought, they would be good to start with. I never, in a million years, thought I\u2019d be writing them from 2017 to 2025, and be continuing into 2026. Just shows you that when you love characters, it\u2019s very hard to not keep putting out more with them.<\/p>\n
