Got it?\u201d I hesitate. \u201cGot it.\u201d He smirks faintly, but his eyes are still sharp. \u201cGood girl.\u201d The way he says it sends a shiver down my spine, a strange mix of comfort and warning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can get the equipment tomorrow,\u201d Hayden continues. \u201cCouple of decent wireless cameras, motion sensors. Might even grab a floodlight for outside. You\u2019ll feel better once we can see who\u2019s lurking.\u201d I nod, biting my lip. \u201cDo you think it\u2019s The Artist?\u201d His expression hardens. \u201cI think whoever it is won\u2019t be a problem once we catch them.\u201d The conviction in his voice is almost frightening. I wonder if he\u2019s picturing catching them\u2026 or killing them. We sit on the couch after that, the silence heavy between us.<\/p>\n

I can feel his eyes on me, but not in the same way as whoever\u2019s been taking those photos. His gaze is protective, almost possessive. \u201cYou really think someone\u2019s been following you?\u201d he asks, breaking the silence. \u201cI know they have,\u201d I whisper. \u201cI can feel it. Every time I leave the coffee shop, I swear someone\u2019s a step behind me. Even here, I can\u2019t shake it. Like\u2026\u201d \u201cLike they\u2019re already inside,\u201d Hayden finishes for me, his voice low.<\/p>\n

I shiver. \u201cHey.\u201d He reaches out, his fingers brushing mine. His touch is warm, grounding. \u201cYou\u2019re safe. I\u2019m not letting anything happen to you, princess. You believe me?\u201d I nod, but the fear still lingers in my chest. \u201cI want to believe you.\u201d \u201cThen believe me,\u201d he says, his voice like steel. \u201cWhoever\u2019s doing this? They\u2019re going to wish they hadn\u2019t.\u201d There\u2019s something dark in his tone, something that makes me both uneasy and strangely reassured.<\/p>\n

I glance at the Ghostface drawing on the wall, its hollow eyes staring at me like it knows too much. \u201cDo you think I\u2019m obsessed? With all of this?\u201d Hayden\u2019s lips twitch, almost like he\u2019s amused. \u201cA little obsession isn\u2019t bad. It\u2019s what keeps you alive in a place like this. Just don\u2019t let it eat you alive, Lira.\u201d<\/p>\n
